About Us

About Us

The Camden Area Family History Society was established in 1996 as a self-funded non-profit organisation for the benefit of all who are interested in researching their family history within the Camden Area, elsewhere within Australia and Overseas.

The Society’s aim is to promote the local family history and heritage of Camden and its residents and primarily does this through managing our Camden Research Room. Admission to the Research Room is free and is conducted entirely by volunteers. We endeavour to provide a friendly atmosphere in which our Members can help each other and be of assistance to others in the community while encouraging the general public to come in and learn about our passion..

Our Research Rooms

The Research Room is located in Camden’s historic precinct where it is part of the Camden Library Museum Complex. Our Room provides an ideal start for anyone starting out in Family History Research as well as experienced researchers as well. We have an extensive Library available to all, and the Society’s archives are open to the public as well as members however there may be a small fee for Non-Members to use the resources ($10 per session) and specific research by our volunteers attracts a $30 fee for up to 15 printed or photocopied pages. Extensive use of the Society’s resources is by negotiation.

Our Research Rooms are Open Thursday, Friday & Saturday 11.00am – 2.00pm
It is best to arrange a time to come in if you are making a special trip to do Research.

NB.   Please remember the research Rooms are staffed by Volunteers, therefore these opening hours may vary at times however, the rooms may be opened at other times by prior appointment. Please contact the Society via our email address cafhs2570@gmail.com if you intend to visit our rooms, so we can ensure a volunteer is available to assist you.
